L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts presents Hidden Gems—a refined book that unveils Hong Kong's storied jewelry legacy. Released to mark the school’s fifth anniversary in the city, this dual presentation offers readers an intimate glimpse into the spectacular craftsmanship that has positioned Hong Kong as an international jewelry hub while contributing significantly to the documentation of its cultural and creative heritage.
Hidden Gems emerges from L’ÉCOLE's ongoing mission to share jewelry knowledge and foster cross-cultural perspectives on decorative arts. Founded in Paris in 2012 with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, L’ÉCOLE established its Hong Kong presence in 2019—its first overseas campus—becoming a vital nexus for jewelry education in Asia. This project extends the School's educational mandate by documenting Hong Kong's remarkable jewelry landscape—from workshops of master artisans dedicated to traditional craftsmanship to museums and educational institutions where designers innovate with unique techniques.
This book showcases the passion, creativity, and historical processes at the core of jewelry-making in Hong Kong, reflecting L’ÉCOLE's commitment to making jewelry knowledge accessible while highlighting the cultural significance of these artistic traditions. Through insightful interviews and profiles, the book guides readers through notable museums and exhibition spaces that showcase Hong Kong’s jewelry heritage. These cultural institutions preserve and display significant collections that highlight the evolution of local jewelry craftsmanship. The publication features conversations with local artisans, artists, and designers who share their expertise and perspectives, illuminating the rich tapestry of Hong Kong’s jewelry culture and its continued significance in the global gemstone trade.
